However, according to the mayor of Portimão, who is at the Operational Command Post installed at the roundabout of the Autodromo, monitoring operations, for now there are no homes in danger, although the situation could change if there was a change in the wind. .
After the helicopter bomber Kamov and the two light helicopters had withdrawn at nightfall, the fire was being fought, at 00:30, by 173 operatives, assisted by 52 vehicles.
Corporations from the Algarve are involved in the fight against the flames, but 30 firefighters and six vehicles from the Alentejo will also arrive soon, since at 21:52 the Reinforcement Group for Combating Forest Fires (GRIF01) of Beja was called.
Isilda Gomes, president of the Portimão Chamber, also announced that the means will be reinforced in the morning, with the arrival of another hundred workers. Also in the morning, the aerial means, namely helicopters, will return.
So far, fire has destroyed a warehouse, while an elderly person with reduced mobility has been removed from his home as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, the Firefighters Volunteers of Portimão, after having made a first appeal “to the generosity of the population”, asking for water, food and fruit, can now pack juices, to reinforce the morning of the operatives who are fighting the fire.
The Fire Departments clarify that they do not need milk and that donations must be delivered to their Barracks, in Portimão.
