The World arrives this Wednesday in Loulé to make known its sounds, in another edition of the MED Festival, which starts tomorrow and lasts until Saturday. 55 bands will play in different spaces of the Historic Area of Loulé, in a celebration of «World Music» which is already one of the main cultural events in the Algarve. In addition to music, there are some new features in this 11th edition.

The Loulé Chamber, which organizes the event, announced this Tuesday the two names that were missing, so that the poster would finally be known in full. Although the program has been closed since January, the announcement of the artists who will be present at MED was being released little by little, but it was released almost in full in early june.

The organization has now announced that Fernando Carvalho, with a repertoire based on the sounds of Africa, will be on Palco Bica, while Palco do Arco adds to its program the DJ «Drumsprojx by Sylva Drums», a DJ Set that fuses electronics with tribal rhythms and traditional instruments like the didgeridoo or congas. Both will perform this Wednesday, the day admission is free.

The news begins to be shown on the first day of the event, as tomorrow, MED starts with the Open MED Band Contest, at Palco Bica and Palco Arco. Six musical projects from various parts of the country participate in this initiative: Sud Express, Bizu Coolective, The Wax Flamingo, Al Mendroin, Jimmy Crazy and Puracura.

In 2014, there will also be a new space for concerts – Palco Chafariz – located in the Bicas Velhas area. «Nanook will pass here, the singer who presents his debut album, IRick Deejay, who revisits the classics of roots/dub reggae, and DJ Mike Fish with his chill out/bossa nova, accompanied by saxophonist Martin Teutscher» , announced the Chamber of Loulé, which organizes the event.

Another new attraction is the daily «Al Fanfare» concerts in different parts of the venue, which «will recreate World Music themes in a brass version».

In 2014, the MED Festival «continues to invest in a poster that stands out for its artistic quality, whether due to the presence of award-winners on the international scene such as the Colombians Bomba Estéreo, the Tuareg singer and guitarist Bombino or the fado singer Gisela João, or by the renowned Nour Eddine and Jupiter & Okwess International, or by some new values like the Portuguese Octa Push or the Malian Debademba».

In addition to music, MED also has exhibitions, street art, handicrafts, gastronomy (this year with the focus on the Mediterranean Diet), not forgetting the workshops and the MED Kids space, where children can also experience a little of the spirit of the festival, in a space with various activities, which is open from 20 pm to midnight.
