The Municipality of Albufeira will support 12 sports clubs in the municipality with a total budget close to one hundred thousand euros, double the support given in 2013. The mayor of the municipality Carlos Silva e Sousa signed Sports Development Program-Contracts with various communities last Monday Thursday, in an effort that "intends to enhance the immense work in support of youth carried out by these associations."

In this first phase, the winners were the Praia da Falésia Sports and Cultural Academy, Bellavista Desportivo Clube, Albufeira Martial Arts Club, Albufeira Judo Club, Albufeira Basketball Club, Imortal Basket Club, Areias S. João Sports Club, Sports Club and Albufeira Cultural Club, Ferreiras Football Club, Football Club Guide, Padernense Club and Associação LUEL- Arte em Movimento.

«Some clubs were not included in this phase, as they do not have all the necessary documentation for us to be able to make the Program-Contracts viable», said Carlos Silva e Sousa.

In total, the Municipality granted close to 100 euros, doubling the amount made available last year. Carlos Silva e Sousa stressed that, in addition to the financial aspect, the Municipality of Albufeira provides «logistical, promotional support, provision of transport and fuel, which also represents a great effort».

The mayor of Albufeira used the ceremony to take stock of the season ended and project the next one. For the mayor, "this support represents an effort by the municipality, in which we intend to value the immense work in favor of youth carried out by these institutions, within a logic that fully respects our financial framework."

“We are at the forefront in supporting associations and we hope to continue to grow sustainably, but a great commitment from everyone is needed to be able to make sports projects of great value to the municipality viable. We will continue on this path in a serious way, talking eye to eye with the clubs, and it is essential that the entire community gets involved, businessmen, associates, athletes' families», he appealed.

The mayor recalled that "these 12 clubs bring together nearly 2 athletes in the training area alone, in addition to dozens of coaches and managers, which in itself clearly shows their importance in the context of youth development."
He also drew attention to the need to review many of the competitive frameworks currently in force, which "protect clubs in the name of defending the practice of sport".
