Raising food for children in need is the objective of an action that will take place at the «Estádio Algarve» during the last weekend of May, within the scope of the «24 hours BTT» sporting event. The «Altimetria» association, which organizes the event, joined the campaign «Separar para Alimentar» by the company Algar and the Entrajuda association and will help fight hunger while benefiting the environment.

The event, which is already one of the biggest sporting events in the region, will bring together more than 500 participants, in addition to a large audience, who are asked to bring recyclable material with them. The Algarve multi-municipal company for the recovery and treatment of solid waste will “transform” these donations into food, which will be delivered to the Food Bank Against Hunger of the Algarve (BACF)

During the two days of the mountain bike race, the organization planned a set of parallel activities aimed at the competitors' relatives and companions. To participate, they just need to show up with recyclable packaging.

«So, in addition to having fun, they will be contributing to the protection of the Environment and collaborating with the Campaign, as 100 percent of the money for the sale of recyclable plastic, metal and ECAL (Cardboard Packaging for Liquid Food) packages is delivered to 24 Hours Mountain Bike by participants and visitors, will revert to the purchase of food for children up to 3 years old», announced Algar, in a press release.

In addition to contributing to a social cause and the preservation of the environment, those who join the campaign during the event are eligible to win a bicycle, which will be drawn among those who join the initiative.

"This action is intended once again to remind the population and athletes that packaging such as water bottles and other packaging, often used during competitions, should be placed in the recycling bin for future recycling after use," added Algar.

The Algarve's Food Bank Against Hunger, beneficiary of the «Separar para Food» campaign, is currently cooperating with 70 institutions that provide support throughout the Algarve and which provide meals to approximately 15.000 people, of which 2.500 are children under 12 years old. .

The launch of “Separar para Reciclar” in April, was associated with a Zumba class that took place in Faro, where he managed to raise 300 kilos of packaging, later converted into food for the BACF do Algarve.
