The Sports Club of the International School of the Algarve (CDEIA) won twelve podium appearances at the National Speed ​​Skating Championship for Beginners and Juniors, which took place in Lagos, on the weekend 24th and 25th of May, organized by CDEIA and by the Portuguese Skating Federation.

The championship was disputed by 128 athletes representing 12 clubs from mainland Portugal and the islands.

The Algarve athlete Maia Batista (7th A) was two-time national champion – 300m Time Trial and 500m Sprint – in Female Initiates. Maia also won two national vice-champion titles – 3000m Points and 1000m Linha – in the same category.

The team of Female Initiates of CDEIA, formed by Maia Batista, Maria do Carmo Sotero and Beatriz Santos (4th A) won the bronze medal in the collective event Estafeta Americana (3000m) and concluded the championship in 2nd position in the overall team classification.

In Male Initiates, Bernardo Freire (7th A) was runner-up nationally in 3 individual events – 300m Time Trial, 500m Sprint and 3000m Points – and reached 3rd place in the 1000m Linha event.

In Women's Juniors, cadet Laura Nagiller (8thB), competing with older athletes won two bronze medals – 500m Sprint and 10000m Eliminate.

Miguel Bravo (10th A), in Men's Juniors also won two bronze medals in the long distance events – 10000m Points and 15000m Eliminate.

Parallel to this national track championship, the 1st round of the National Meeting of Schoolchildren (athletes aged 8 to 9 years) also took place. CDEIA lined up in this meeting with young skaters Guilherme Ferrolho (3rd A), Miguel Ferreira (3rd A) and Hugo Freire and concluded the journey leading the ranking among 8 participating clubs.
