A delegation of hotel and tourist businessmen from the Algarve, following an official invitation from the Mayor of Tangier, Regional Tourism Council of Tangier/Tétouan and the Honorary Consulate of the Kingdom of Morocco in the Algarve, visited that Moroccan region between days 10th and 13th of May.

The program included a presentation of the tourist and business Algarve to businessmen and tourism professionals in that region, as well as to the regional and national press of Morocco, «the visit having been the subject of wide media coverage in that country», stresses the Association of Hotels and Entrepreneurs Algarve Tourists (AHETA), whose president Elidérico Viegas was part of the delegation.

This meeting was attended and attended by a representative of the Ministry of Tourism of Morocco.

The delegation, who was also part of the vice president of the Chamber of Faro, learned about the huge tourist development underway in this region of Morocco, both in terms of hotel infrastructure and public works, with special emphasis on the Maritime Port of Tangier and the restoration of the Portuguese walls in that city.

The Mayor of Tangier «has been strongly committed to the establishment of joint partnerships with the Algarve, within the scope of the existing twinning process with the city of Faro», adds the AHETA.

On the other hand, the Moroccan and Algarve businessmen started «conversations and contacts, with a view to deepening joint relations», with a next meeting being planned for next October in the Algarve.

Both parties considered to be of the utmost importance «re-establish the maritime link between Tangier and Faro, abandoned a few years ago, and the two parties assumed the commitment to collaborate actively towards its economic viability, namely through joint actions to promote this maritime route».

AHETA recalls that the region of Tangier is "currently the most dynamic in terms of economic and social development in Morocco, with growth well above the international average, with a growing number of people with high economic power."

The Tangier/Tétouan region has around 3 million inhabitants, of which around 1,5 million are in the city of Tangier.
