The show “Villa Lobos em Movimento” will be performed at the Chapel of Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe, in Raposeira (Vila do Bispo), next Sunday, May 4, at 17 pm.

“Villa Lobos em Movimento” is a reinterpretation of the pieces for classical guitar by the best-known Brazilian composer, also interpreted through dance.

The piece presents the five Preludes for guitar that Villa himself dedicated to different characters of Brazilian culture, interspersed with studies of choros that help to complete the ideas suggested by the preludes and metaphorized by the movements.

The recital evolves from the recognition of European influences brought to Brazil by the Portuguese colonization during the reign of D. João VI. Villa-Lobos appropriated them, to deconstruct and remodel them with an intentional and intense contamination by traditions, frolics and popular beliefs deriving from the interactions with the African slave and with what was left of the indigenous civilizations, creating a genuinely Brazilian work that comes influencing several generations of composers.

The piece ends with a tribute to the Indian, the original component of this amalgamation of what is called the Brazilian people.

The show, produced by the Academy of Music in Tavira, features Josué Nunes on classical guitar, Simone Marçal, on dance, and Tela Leão, responsible for the script and direction.

The event is part of the Program for the Promotion and Valorization of Monuments (DiVaM) organized by the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve.
