The room of the Roman mosaic of the Ocean God, in the Municipal Museum of Faro, reopened last Saturday, the 12th, after closing for refurbishment works since August of last year.

This extraordinary piece, which expresses well the economic and commercial power of the city of Ossónoba in the XNUMXnd and XNUMXrd centuries, now appears in a renovated room, not only in its visual appearance, but also in its informative content, in the set of archaeological pieces previously kept and also in the accessibility to the public.

In this generously sized mosaic, the Ocean God is depicted in a majestic tone and with marine motifs. The rest of the decoration, filled with geometric and plant themes, as well as the legend of the sponsors who financed this work, offers multiple readings and an approximation of what Ossónoba used to be in that distant past.

The reopening was marked by the performance of guitarist João Cuña, by the presentation of the theatrical play “For a question of commas”, starred by the Group two plus one and for the guided tour of the exhibition by the scientific commissioner João Pedro Bernardes, professor at the University of Algarve, ending the cultural program with a port of honor, supported by the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve.

In representation of the patrons who played a decisive role in the realization of this project, Fernando Nogueira, chairman of the board of directors of the Millennium BCP Foundation, Teófilo Dinis, commercial director of Faro from Delta Cafés, Manuel Salvador, commercial director of Metalofarense, and André Vieira de Castro, chairman of the board of directors of Arga Tintas. The restructuring of the room also had the support of the Consulate of Angola in Faro.
