The painting of a mural alluding to the 25th of April, by students from the schools in the municipality of Lagoa, on the afternoon of the 23rd and throughout the 24th, is the main initiative planned by the Town Council of Lagoa, União de Parishes Lagoa-Carvoeiro and Parishes of Porches and Ferragudo to mark the 40th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution.
The mural called «25/40 – 25/80» is by the muralist Hugo Lucas and will be painted on a wall that is already prepared to receive the first brushstrokes, located in Largo do Município, in front of the old Finances and the main building of Chamber.
The mural depicting the 25th of April 1974, which will be inaugurated at 21:50 on the 24th, will include, according to the municipality, «the main symbols that are part of popular iconography to remind new generations of what the “carnation revolution” was” .
The celebrations will take place between the 23rd and 25th of April, throughout the municipality of Lagoa. The highlight goes to music, with the show «Abril por Cá», by the council's associations, scheduled for April 24, at 22 pm, in Largo do Município, or the «Gala da Liberdade», with interventions by school students of the county, on the 00th, at 25 pm, in the Municipal Auditorium.
The Union of Parishes of Lagoa and Carvoeiro, for its part, promotes on the 23rd and 24th, at 10:00 am and 14:00 pm, sessions of the short story “Histórias com Liberdade”, performed by the Experimental Theater group of Lagos, at the Lagoa Basic School.
In the Parish of Porches there will be mainly sports competitions, while in Ferragudo, among other initiatives, highlight, on the 25th, from 10:00 am, to the Raising of the flag of freedom, an event that includes traditional games, paintings, drawings, face paintings and balloon modeling, and also demonstration of Oriental Dance, demonstration of Taekwondo, and Rhythmic Gymnastics by the Dance Group 'Estrelinhas' of the CAPELA association, all in Largo Rainha D. Leonor.
