Marlon Lipke (Surf Club of Faro) and Luca Guichard (Algarve Surf Clube) took the Algarve to the quarter-finals man on man in the second stage of the professional surfing circuit Liga Moche 2014.
They were the last two resistant in the armada of 12 surfers from Algarve clubs present at the Allianz Ericeira Pro, on Ribeira d'Ilhas beach. Luca and Marlon reached the last day of the competition, Saturday, and lost in their respective duels for access to the semi-finals.
Luca Guichard was eliminated by local Gony Zubizarreta. The Algarve surfer worked hard, made nine waves during the heat, but didn't get high scores. Luca lost with a score of 8.50 (4.65+3.85), insufficient to surpass the 14.50 points gained by Gony. With this result, Luca Guichard repeats the 5th place achieved in last year's final classification. This year, the surfer from Tavira made, in the third round, the best wave (9.25) of the championship until the final.
Marlon Lipke and José Ferreira reedited in Ribeira d'Ilhas the semi-final of the first stage of the Liga Moche, in March, in Caparica. This Saturday, April 19, in the quarter-finals of the Allianz Ericeira Pro, José Ferreira avenged Caparica's defeat.
Guincho surfer dominated the heat with two excellent waves (8.50+9.00 | score 17.50) and made good use of priority to control the opponent.
Marlon was eliminated with a score de12.25 (5.50+6.75) and finished the Allianz Ericeira Pro in 5th place in the final classification, better than in 2013, when he was eliminated in the round of XNUMX.
Marlon Lipke announced in Ericeira that he will not be present at the next stage of the Moche League 2014, in May, in Porto. The surfer from Lagos was runner-up in the inaugural stage of the league, in March, in Costa de Caparica and leaves Ericeira in 4th place in the ranking national.
The Algarve was represented by 12 surfers in the Allianz Ericeira Pro, disputed with small sea. Yolanda Hopkins (Clube Naval de Portimão) was the only Algarve woman in the women's frame and lost 4th, right in the opening heat (quarter-finals), repeating the result of the first stage.
Three athletes from the Algarve were eliminated in the first round of the men's four, on Thursday: João Mealha (Surf Club de Faro, 4th on his drums), Francisco Duarte (Clube Naval de Portimão, 3rd) and Miguel Marinho (CNPortimão, 4th).
The young hope Algarvian Frederico 'Martim' Magalhães (Clube Naval de Portimão) made his debut in the Moche League in Ericeira. For the first time competing among the elite of national surfing, Martim reached the second round of the competition (group of 32 best), being eliminated in 4th place in his heat (score 6.00).
In the second men's round, Friday morning, three other athletes from the Algarve were also eliminated: Joackim Guichard (Algarve Surf Clube, 3rd), Paulo Almeida (Clube Naval de Portimão, 4th) and Ivan Bailote (Albufeira Surf Clube, 4th). Joackim and Paulo competed in the same heat.

Eduardo Fernandes (Algarve Surf Clube) also lost 4th (score 11.95 | 6.10+5.85), in a battery dominated by the inspired Gony Zubizarreta (score 17.50) and in which the national champion Frederico Morais was also eliminated.
With 4th places in the respective batteries of the third round, Miguel Mouzinho and Eduardo Fernandes concluded the championship in 13th place in the final classification.
