The National Association of Surfers (ANS) today presented the calendar for the Liga Moche 2014, confirming the Algarve's return to the most important surfing competition in the country. Praia do Amado, municipality of Aljezur, will host the fourth stage of the circuit, among the the 6th and 8th of June. Three months later, the fifth stage of the Esperanças 2014 National Surf Circuit will take place on the same beach.

This year the Algarve is back on the national surf route. In February, the inclusion of Praia do Amado in the Esperanças 2014 National Surf Circuit was announced, with the Algarve race scheduled for the 6th and 7th of September, organized by the Algarve Surf Clube with the support of the Municipality of Aljezur and the Portuguese Federation of Surfing.

In early February, at the premiere of the surf film «Algarve», at Pousada do Infante, in Sagres, the Sul Informação he observed a long conversation between the president of the National Association of Surfers, Francisco Rodrigues, and the president of the Algarve Tourism Region, Desidério Silva. Already at the time, the possibility of the Algarve being included in the Liga Moche calendar was foreseen and we asked the president of the Tourism Region: “We are going to support the realization of a stage of the Liga Moche in the Algarve”, replied Desidério Silva.

Nothing was decided at that time, not least because the entry of Aljezur forced the departure of Peniche from the Moche League. “It is always a difficult decision, but there was a strong objective of the ANS, which was to decentralize the League as much as possible”, admitted Francisco Rodrigues to «Surf Portugal».

“We had to take one of the tests. The authorities of the Algarve embraced the project and with that it was possible”, concluded the president of ANS.

In addition to the Algarve Tourism Region, the Municipality of Aljezur will also support the Liga Moche stage in the Algarve, a competition with the best Portuguese surfers, at the start of the bathing season.

Several Algarve surfers compete in the Moche League, especially Marlon Lipke, from Lagos, who, in 2013, won the last stage, in Cascais, and finished the League in 7th position, the best Algarve in the table and the only one in the 'top 10' .
