The opening ceremony of the V Quelfes Games takes place next Saturday, March 29, at 17 pm, in the Municipal Auditorium of Olhão. Tickets, free of charge, are already being distributed in the Auditorium and in the delegation of the Parish Council of Quelfes.

The opening ceremony of these V Quelfes Games promises to bring to the city an unprecedented, inspiring and emotional show, in which moments of drama, live music and audiovisual elements will be integrated, without forgetting the already traditional Olympic symbology.

The Quelfes Games – a sporting and cultural event held annually in Olhão and the one that most promotes Olympism in Portugal – is now in its 5th edition and runs until 6 April, with the participation of schools from the 1st cycle of the municipality.

Despite its local celebration, the Games are open to participation by other schools or children. Every year, the «Call to the Games» challenges the youngest to come to Olhão to show their best, under the sign of Olympism and its universal human values.

This year's Games will once again focus on sporting events, from athletics to swimming, including basketball, football and fencing. To these are added the cultural and artistic competitions under the theme The Olympic Life of Pierre de Coubertin.

Supervised by the Quelfes International Committee, these Games are organized by the Quelfes Parish Council in partnership with the Municipality of Olhão. This year, one of the novelties is the renewed Quelfes Games Field, a space that will host athletics and Greek scarf competitions. This is a space that will provide better conditions for sports, not only at a local level, but also for the population in general, as it is the only athletics track in the municipality.

Another innovation of the Quelfes Games, this year, is the holding of several conferences on Olympism that promise to bring to Olhão some of the most outstanding figures of the national Olympic movement.

On the opening day, the 29th, at 21 pm, the Hotel Real Marina hosts the conference The Importance of Olympism in Children's Development, which will be attended by José Manuel Constantino, president of the Olympic Committee of Portugal, Humberto Santos, president of the Paralympic Committee of Portugal, Luís Costa, president of the Olympic Academy of Portugal, José Vicente Moura, president of the Olympic Committee of Portugal and Gustavo Marcos, founder of the Quelfes Games Movement.

On March 31, at 18:00 pm, the auditorium of Colégio Bernardete Romeira hosts the Olympism - Educational Model in Analysis, with the participation of Alberto Almeida, regional delegate for Education, Luís Felício, director of the João da Rosa school grouping, Eduardo Sena, regional coordinator of School Sports and Eduardo Fernandes, coordinator of the Escola Ativa project.

On April 3, at 18 pm, at the Hotel Real Marina, the conference will take place Olympic Athletes - Example of Overcoming, with the presence of Jorge Costa, Hélder Oliveira, Ana Dias and Ezequiel Canário.
