Mills and cereals will inspire another tour of the cycle “Mediterranean Diet Walks and Eating”, which will take place on Saturday, April 5, in Cachopo, in the interior of the municipality of Tavira. Custódia Mateus, Custódio Campos and Otília Cardeira will be the guides for this initiative.

Participants will be invited to bake bread at Casas Baixas, and then taste it at the next picnic. The tour ends with a visit to the white mill, where stories about this valuable heritage will be shared. In this way, the Municipal Museum of Tavira marks the National Day of the Mills, which is celebrated on April 7th.

Registration for the tour is mandatory and must be done by April 2nd on the website of the Chamber of Tavira (maximum limit of 20 participants). The picnic includes tiborna, wine, tea, fresh cheese, sausages, honey, fruit and jam and has a cost of 5 euros per person.

Cereals are part of the trilogy of Mediterranean food culture: bread, olive oil and wine. At the end of the XNUMXth century, Teófilo Braga wrote, regarding the food practiced: «In Tavira and neighboring parishes: seafood, fish, maize porridge with seafood or olive oil and rarely eat bread». The central value of “bread” is also reflected in the transformation structures and associated professions, mills and millers, not forgetting the ovens, which, in the mountains, are often communal, “of everyone on the hill”.
