Martial arts were placed at the service of the integration of Erasmus students who chose Faro and the University of Algarve to have a study experience abroad. Last Wednesday, 45 Erasmus students, from 16 nationalities, took an initiation class to Judo, Jiu-jitsu and Self Defense at the Judo Clube do Algarve, in the Municipal Market of Faro.

This was a joint initiative of the Judo Clube do Algarve and the Erasmus Students Network – Candidate Section, which consisted of a two-hour class, where guests could «practice and learn about the Olympic sport and martial art that is Judo».
«This initiative aimed to encourage the practice of Judo and promote a healthy lifestyle among the population of Faro and those who temporarily inhabit our county», according to the sports association.

An action that «is something positive and that should happen again» «The relationship between Judo Clube do Algarve and the University of Algarve must be developed, involving not only Erasmus students but also all Higher Education students who choose Faro and UAlg to continue their studies and practice of Judo», considered the president of the Judo Clube do Algarve Júlio Marcelino, after the initiative.

The Judo Clube do Algarve has been promoting various actions with civil society and institutions in the Municipality. In recent months there have been public initiatives such as initiation classes to Judo and promotion of healthy eating for 1st cycle students of the Tomás Cabreira Schools grouping, organization of Pilates, Tai-chi and Zumba classes in the schedule of Faro Active and the realization of a Flash Mob on the 7th anniversary of the Municipal Market of Faro.
