The book “O Príncipe”, by Nicolau Machiavelli, will be evoked in a lecture taking place today, Wednesday, at Pátio de Letras, in Faro, held on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of this classic work of world literature. The session will be led by Ebe Francioni and Luciano Paci.

The session will feature readings and comments on some passages from the work, poring over and addressing themes such as «the autonomy of politics, the distinction between being and having to be, the call to unify a nation, misunderstandings about Machiavellianism, whether Machiavelli was a theorist of cynicism and immorality, an analyst of the mechanisms of power or a passionate defender of freedom and the intellectual appeal of a work that is still very current».

An initiative of ACTA, the Algarve Theater Company, under the Lusitália Project, with the Pátio de Letras.
