The PSD Algarve considers it necessary for the Government to create «the necessary conditions» so that the ARS Algarve can reopen «as soon as possible» the health extensions of Odeleite and Azinhal, in the municipality of Castro Marim, and the extension of Vaqueiros, in Alcoutim, closed in October of last year.

In a statement, the structure headed by Luís Gomes, who is also the mayor of Vila Real de Santo António, says he has watched "with apprehension at the announcement of the closure" of those health extensions.

The Algarvian Social Democrats add that, after "dealing to understand the reasons for this closure", they were "concerned about this decision", after hearing the "government statements on this matter».

«Despite the ongoing negotiation process between the ARS Algarve and the municipalities of Castro Marim and Alcoutim», the PSD Algarve insists on the «speed» of the reopening, «since the aforementioned health units constitute an indispensable response to the populations of these parishes, whose residents are mostly elderly with low resources and without public transport available regularly to the headquarters of the respective municipalities, significantly conditioning access to health care».

The PSD Algarve, in its statement, also states that it considers that «the maintenance of public health facilities is essential for the settlement of populations in the interior of the country, with special emphasis on the Algarve mountains, and an indispensable instrument for attracting young people».

"In the greater interest of the populations affected by this decision, the PSD/Algarve urges the Government, through its decentralized structures, to quickly resolve this problem."

Recently, AMAL – Algarve Intermunicipal Community deliberated unanimously, «require the reopening of the health extensions that have already been closed» in Castro Marim and Alcoutim and ensure that no one else closes.

The closure of these Extensions has already motivated strong protests from the populations from both counties, with a demonstration even taking place at the door of the ARS in Faro, which brought together mainly the elderly and mayors.
