The Government considered that the closing of three extensions of Health in Castro Marim and Alcoutim improved access to health care for the populations they served, who now have access to consultation "every weekday" and better "accessibility".

In a response to the Parliamentary Group of the Left Bloc, the Ministry of Health did not, even so, put aside the possible reopening of the extensions of Odeleite and Azinhal, in Castro Marim and of Vaqueiros, in Alcoutim.

The tutelage justified that the closing of the health units was due, on the one hand, to "the inexistence of a computer network", which made it impossible to "the electronic clinical record (...), as well as the electronic prescription and requisition of medicines and MCDT" and, on the other, the lack of conditions in the facilities where the health units operated, namely those in Odeleite and Vaqueiros.

In the installations of these two extensions, there was no “access for people with reduced mobility” and, in the case of Vaqueiros, they were “obsolete and deteriorated”. Both health units, "manda high charges for their requalification".

"In addition to the visible advantages in terms of accessibility and continuity of care, it is also important to mention that the closing of the aforementioned extensions naturally translates into an optimization of existing resources and greater profitability of working time", reads the response from the Government to the BE.

«With regard to the possible reopening of the extensions of Azinhal, Odeleite and Vaqueiros, it should be noted that a working group was created including representatives of ARS Algarve, ACES Sotavento, the targeted Municipal Councils and Parish Councils, with the purpose of reassessing the assumptions that led to the decision to close and define joint implementation measures that minimize or eliminate the constraints caused to users», concluded the Ministry of Health.
