Sea destroys swimming pool at Marina de Portimão and causes damages in Carvoeiro, Ferragudo and Armação

The combination of the strong swell from the south and the high tide this afternoon destroyed the NoSolo Café pool, beach support and the sand of the so-called Marina de Portimão beach, having also flooded accesses, among other damages.

In the neighboring municipality of Lagoa, at Praia do Carvoeiro, the waves swept the square, causing damage to several restaurants, especially in the «Boat», where water and stones dragged by the force of the sea destroyed the glass and equipment.

The Molhe restaurant, in Ferragudo, on the Arade River estuary, also suffered serious damage to its structure and equipment.

In Armação de Pêra, to which the Sul Informação he learned that there are also restaurants and beach facilities in danger due to the storm at sea.

At the Portimão Marina, the greatest damage was caused in the structures of NoSolo Café, especially in the swimming pool and bar area, which were swept away by the waves.

But the force of the sea also caused the destruction of the support of the neighboring beach of Marina, a large part of the sports area of ​​Praia da Rocha, as well as major damage to the jetty supplying diesel to the vessels.

A source at the site told the South Informationwhat a tug was used this afternoon to pick up part of that diesel supply jetty, which was already drifting in the middle of the estuary.

The mayor of Portimão told our newspaper that the biggest damage to the coast of the county occurred in the Marina, especially in the swimming pool, which is the structure directly facing the entrance to the bar and is therefore more vulnerable to these storms from the south. .

«I ran the entire coast of our municipality and found that at Praia do Vau the waves also swept the beach, reaching the restaurants. But as these structures are built on stilts, until recently there was no major damage to mention», added Isilda Gomes.

On the other hand, added the mayor, "after the sea beach, which was around 18:20, the strength of the waves began to decrease."

Although sea conditions are expected to ease from midnight, if this does not happen, there could be new shocks when it is high tide again, between 6:00 am and 7:00 am tomorrow morning.

The entire Portuguese coast is under Red Warning, the most serious of all, due to the strong maritime agitation.
