Communist MEP João Ferreira is going to visit the municipality of Olhão tomorrow, Friday, to speak with shellfish gatherers and nurserymen from Ria Formosa, with the entities that represent them and with the municipality of Olhão. The idea is to better understand the problems caused by the recent reclassification of the Bivalves production areas in this lagoon area.
João Ferreira meets with industry professionals at 9:30 am, at Jardim Pescador Olhanense, followed by a meeting with the Câmara de Olhão, at 11:30 am. At 14 pm, the MEP participates in a working meeting with various organizations representing the class, in the premises of the Parish Council of Olhão.
The visit takes place «following the intervention of the PCP in defense of the Ria Formosa and given the situation facing thousands of shellfish gatherers and nurserymen, which has already led to questioning by the Government, the European Commission and the presentation of a Draft Resolution of the PCP in the Assembly of the Republic demanding urgent measures in defense of the Ria and the populations», illustrated the secretariat of the Regional Directorate of the Algarve (DORAL) of the PCP, in a press release.
