On Monday, the 27th, at 10:30 am, the Municipality of Silves will sign an agreement with the Union of Local and Regional Administration Workers (STAL), in order to allow employees of this municipality who are unionized in that structure to maintain the 35 weekly working hours.

As Algarve councils had decided, last week, at a meeting of the AMAL Intermunicipal Council, to form a common front to negotiate with the unions and adopt the regime of 35 hours a week.

Jorge Botelho, president of AMAL, then announced that the submission of the request to the Government, a necessary step to adopt a regime of 35 hours per week, would be joint, in order to allow a quicker deliberation on the part of the Secretary of State.

«There were already some Algarve Chambers that were moving ahead with this process, but they will wait a while for it to be done together», revealed Jorge Botelho.

However, the Chamber of Silves, chaired by Rosa Palma (CDU), will already proceed with the process.

Last September, the Government launched the diploma that increases the hours of public service from 35 to 40 hours a week, but the Algarve authorities intend to take advantage of the exception regime provided for in the law, which determines the possibility of maintaining 35 hours, when there is negotiation with union forces.
