«The State of Health in the Barlavento Algarvio» will be the theme of the debate that the association «Teia D'Impulsos», in partnership with the Municipality of Portimão and Rádio Costa D'Oiro, will hold in the Small Auditorium of TEMPO – Teatro Municipality of Portimão, on January 22, at 21 pm.

Inserted in the cycle «Teia d'Ideias – Espaço de Cidadania», this initiative aims to launch the debate on the present and future of Centro Hospitalar do Barlavento Algarvio, now Centro Hospitalar do Algarve (CHA), after the merger with Hospital de Faro. The debate promises to be heated, as it will include the current administrator of CHA Pedro Nunes and his predecessor in Portimão Luís Batalau, who has been one of the critics of the administration that is being carried out.

The guest panel also includes the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Regional Health Administration of the Algarve João Moura Reis and the chairman of the District Council of the Algarve Medical District of the Medical Association Ulisses Brito. The «Teia D'Impulsos» will be represented by Vítor Dias and the moderation of the debate will be in charge of Nuno Silva.

«At a time when the quality of public health care provided in the Algarve has been the target of media interest and aroused the confrontation of divergent opinions, it is necessary to clarify citizens and discuss the consequences for public health of recent changes in management of the region's public hospitals, with the merger of the Hospital de Faro and the Hospital Center of the Barlavento Algarvio», illustrated the Algarve Social, Cultural and Sports Association.

Among the issues that have deserved media exposure, there are «the closing of medical-surgical specialties, the insufficiency of human and material resources, the extension of the waiting time in emergencies, delays in carrying out exams and surgeries or the expressed discontent by users and health professionals».

In this debate, several questions will be on the table, including: “Is the primary care provided by the public hospital providing an adequate response to the population's needs? What are the direct consequences of the reorganization of hospital services for users in the Barlavento Algarvio region? And will the private sector be able to fill the gaps in the services provided by the public hospital?”.

The meeting is open to all interested parties, who will be able to watch it live and actively participate in the debate. It will also be possible to follow the main events of the gathering through the Facebook page of Teia D'Impulsos or listen to it later on on Rádio Costa D'Oiro, where it will be broadcast on the program «Impulso».
