"In November, put everything to dry, the sun may not return," warns popular wisdom. Winter is just around the corner and the Museum of Tavira, within the scope of the exhibition «Mediterranean Diet - Millennial Cultural Heritage», took the opportunity to launch a cycle of tours and workshops on the know-how of Mediterranean cuisine, whose first activity is next Saturday .

On November 9, at 14:30 pm, there will be a visit to the Cooperative of Olive Growers of Tavira (OLICER), in Vale Caranguejo, guided by Manuel Martins.

At this time of year, he illustrated the Municipal Museum of Tavira, «the pantry is provisioned and the best items are spying in the garden for “grain dinners” with sweet potatoes from the past harvest». The activities that are starting now will focus a lot on this tradition.

In addition to participating in tours and workshops, those interested in the subject can enjoy the exhibition on display at the Municipal Museum of Tavira, which aims to show what the Mediterranean diet is all about.

The exhibition reveals the multiple dimensions of this millenary cuisine, namely «the concept of cultural space and millenary Mediterranean lifestyle, an intangible cultural heritage handed down from generation to generation and its social and religious aspects, sacred foods and their symbologies, the products of the sea and of the land that support a diet of excellence recognized by the WHO – World Health Organization».

“The central focus is the territory and the multiple heritages of Tavira, the testimonies of the presence of ancient civilizations, the cultural landscapes and products of the Ria Formosa, the productions of the barrocal and mountain range, the festivities and cultural practices”, adds Tavirense Museum.

Tavira leads the Portuguese candidacy of the Mediterranean Diet for Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and in December he will find out if the joint candidacy, which unites seven countries, will be accepted by the UNESCO General Assembly.
