The University of Algarve will host tomorrow, Friday, the workshop «New Design for the Product Re-Design». At 14:30 pm, design specialist José Rui Marcelino will talk about innovation in the sector, in the Sala de Actos of the Faculty of Economics, on the institution's Campus de Gambelas.

The third session of a cycle of workshops that CRIA – Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer Division of the University of Algarve is promoting, within the scope of the European project «WIDER – Sustainable growth of SMEs».

Tomorrow's workshop intends to «provide basic notions of the function of design in companies, where and how it intervenes», as well as the «importance of the design process in innovation as the necessary path to go from idea to market».

Another objective of the workshop is to «understand the approach to the process of developing new products/services, managing the process, culture and skills of teams and institutions». The session will also present «practical cases of incremental vs. radical innovation in the different aspects of design to support the launch of new products».

Interested parties can still register, on the CRIA website. The number of participants is limited.

On December 3rd, there will be a new WIDER workshop at UAlg, this time dedicated to the theme «Projecting Together and Through End User». Ana Castro, from Ahnfelt Consultants, is the guest speaker.

 

About the speaker:

José Rui Marcelino was born in Porto in 1970. He has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico de Lisboa (IST) and a Master in Design of Means of Transport from Scuola Politecnica di Design in Milan. from the Technical University of Lisbon (FAUTL), in the area of ​​Design Process Management.

Academically, he taught Design Project at IST, FAUTL and EUAC. On a professional level, and after working at Centro Stile ALFA ROMEO, he founded in 1997 the company Almadesign to dedicate himself to Design of Transport, Products and Interiors. In addition to managing the company and being responsible for projects, he is a design consultant for several companies and institutions. With Almadesign, it received the National Design Award in 1999 and 2009, the Good Design Award in 2009, the Honorable Mention of the DME Awards 2009, the Green Good Design of 2010 and the Crystal Cabin Award in 2012, among others.

He actively collaborates in boosting cooperation networks between companies, having been co-founder of working groups and associations such as PEMAS, the Portuguese Association for the Aeronautical Industry.
