Most public schools in the Algarve are now closed, due to the Civil Service Strike called by the two Portuguese inter-union unions, CGTP and UGT. Adherence in educational establishments was very high, guaranteed to the Sul Informação the coordinator of the South Zone of the Teachers Union Ana Simões, although there is still no final data.

The union official joined, with other employees of schools and municipalities in the Algarve, in the picket of strike that the Sindicato dos Enfermeiros is promoting at the Hospital de Faro. This is, for now, the hot spot of the labor protest in the Algarve capital, but in the afternoon, from 15 pm, there will be a Public Tribune on Rua de Santo António.

According to Ana Simões, almost all of the secondary schools in the Algarve have stopped. «In the three secondary of Faro there were no classes and those in Silves, Loulé, Vila Real de Santo António, Albufeira and Olhão were also closed”, he revealed. The same scenario is repeated in Basic Education schools. «The majority of schools in all the Algarve's municipalities have closed», he assured.

Teachers protest against what they consider "the attempt to destroy public schools" by the current government. “This is a strong response from teachers and all staff working in schools. Every day, decisions are made that attack the quality of public schools», he illustrated.

Also present at the demonstration at the Hospital de Faro, the president of the Union of Unions of the Algarve is still unable to take stock of the strike, although he indicates that there is strong support in the education sector and among nurses.
