The Algarve International School will hold its 2nd Pedagogical Conference of the 2013-2014 school year on November 29, from 21 pm, in the small auditorium of TEMPO – Portimão Municipal Theater, with the support of the Portimão City Council.

“Grieving Process in Children and Adolescents” is the topic to be addressed by Professor Paula Isabel Santos, a psychologist and university professor in Porto.

The death of a loved one is a difficult experience at any age. Children, in particular, have difficulty understanding the phenomenon and expressing their feelings and often end up being affected by the emotional charge of the adults around them.

"It is essential to understand the difficulties of children and adolescents and know how to intervene to facilitate their grieving processes," consider the conference promoters.

Paula Isabel Santos is the scientific coordinator of the course on Assessment and Intervention in the Grief Process (from childhood to adulthood), included in the postgraduate course in Psychopedagogical Intervention in School Context, at Instituto CRIAP – Psychology and Advanced Training, in Porto.

The lecturer has a PhD in Biomedical Sciences (Mental Health), a degree in Psychology, a Family and Couple Psychotherapist, a university professor since 2001 and a researcher in the field of Mental Health, including specific research on death and the role of death and grief in our lives.

Paula Isabel Santos will share some of her research findings in Portimão and help families in the local community to effectively intervene in the grieving processes of their children and adolescents.
Admission to the conference is free and requires no reservation.
