Casa Santos Lima – Companhia das Vinhas SA is the next company to set up in the Parque Empresarial de Tavira. For this purpose, it signed a contract for the purchase and sale of a lot with the municipal company EMPET – Parques Empresarias de Tavira, for the installation of this winery.

Casa Santos Lima, fulfilling its expansion plan to other wine regions in Portugal, with the aim of diversifying its portfolio of Portuguese wines, decided to invest in the Algarve Region, more specifically in the Demarcated Region of Tavira, one of the regions of Portugal with greater international visibility and excellent aptitude for the production of quality wines.

«This bet, which intends to resume the wine-producing tradition of the Region, creates a productive and, at the same time, attractive pole in terms of wine tourism», emphasizes EMPET.

For João Pedro Rodrigues, president of EMPET, “since the beginning of the negotiations, we had no doubts about the importance of this project for the consolidation of the Business Park of Tavira, being also a significant boost and stimulus for the economic development of the municipality of Tavira and the Algarve. In addition, Casa Santos Lima's activity clearly fits the objective of attracting companies focused on the areas of Economy of the Sea, Agro-industry and Tourism. In this sense, we have done everything to secure this investment in our municipality.”

The expansion and development plan projects the planting, in the short term, of around 2,7 hectares of vines, which will be added to the existing plantation.

In order to maximize the quality of the wines to be produced, Casa Santos Lima will also build its own winery in the Region, where a building will be built for winemaking, storage and administrative support.

José Luís Santos Lima Oliveira da Silva, president of Casa Santos Lima, stressed, in turn, that “with the expansion plan in the Tavira Region as the centrality, it was a happy coincidence to have found a business infrastructure in the municipality that meets our requirements of investment. The location, the excellent conditions and benefits that the Business Park offers, combined with the flexibility of occupation, corresponded to the installation goals of Casa Santos Lima.”

The investment associated with this increase in wine production should amount to around 150 euros, while investment in new facilities for wine production should rise to around 400 euros, with the creation of 12 work stations.

Casa Santos Lima already foresees for 2014 the launch of the first Red and Rosé wines.
