António Branco will be the new Rector of the University of Algarve. The future head of the Algarve Academy was elected today, Wednesday morning and on the first ballot, at the General Council meeting called for this purpose. António Branco got 18 of the 35 votes, against 12 for Efigénio Rebelo and two for Adelino Canário. There was also a blank vote.

The Professor of Didactics of Languages ​​and Literatures, attached to the University of Algarve since 2012, had already held several management positions at UAlg, including director of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences and director of the Library Library and Central Archive of UAlg.

In an interview he gave to Sul Informação  and to RUA FM last week, on its action program, it placed the emphasis on greater dialogue between members of the academy, on participatory governance, on a restructuring of the training offer, with rationalization of courses in the first cycle.

As for the financial problems UAlg is struggling with, he considered that they are, in part, "a political problem" and argued that the Government cannot assume responsibility for its obligations.

 

Brief Curriculum of António Branco:

António Manuel da Costa Guedes Branco was born on January 16, 1962 in Malangue, Angola. In 1989, he graduated in Modern Languages ​​and Literatures at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon. In 91, he began teaching at the University of Algarve as a guest assistant, having become an assistant professor in 1999, the same year he obtained his Doctorate in Medieval Portuguese Literature. Between 2003 and 2012 he was Associate Professor in Language and Literature Didactics, having joined the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences (FCHS) at UAlg in 2012.

Over the many years he has been connected to UAlg, he has held several positions, namely: Director of FCHS; Coordinator of the Center for Research in Arts and Communication; Director of the UAlg Library and Central Archives; Chairman of the Board of Directors of FCHS; Member of the Statutory Assembly; Member of the General Council; Director of the Masters and Doctorate in Communication, Arts and Culture and the Masters in Documentary Sciences and in Artistic Education.
