The accounts of the Academic Association of the University of Algarve (AAUAlg) may go to court, to determine whether there was harmful management by the General Directorate (DG) of 2011, chaired by Guilherme Portada, and any claim for compensation for damages caused during this period, which the current management of AAUAlg claims to be over 300 euros.

Num release made public this Sunday, shortly after closing the polls for the 2013 municipal elections (20:51), the AAUAlg, currently chaired by Filipa Silva, announced that it has handed over to a lawyer the documentation resulting from an audit that was carried out on the association's accounts in 2012 , “for the determination of possible civil and criminal liabilities of the members of the General Direction of the Academic Association of 2011”.

The decision to hand over the case to a specialist in law meets the «will of the students of the University of Algarve». «Students from the University of Algarve demonstrated, in the Magna Assembly held in November 2012, their unequivocal desire to have a clearing up of responsibilities for the General Direction in 2011», guarantees the current DG.

For this purpose, the Magna Assembly has already decided, twice, “to create a Disciplinary Council so that there is an internal tabulation”, which has not yet presented results. "In this way, this inertia transfers to the General Directorate, in accordance with what was approved in the aforementioned Magna Assembly, the responsibility to continue the process in terms of justice", they considered.

From what was found by the external audit, the current DG highlights several decisions of the teams chaired by Guilherme Portada, namely those related to the Academic Week of 2011, which will have had a loss in the order of 250 thousand euros.

In addition to considering that the budget for hiring artists for the party that year "did not comply with the rules of prudence and rationality", as it was higher than normal, they accuse Guilherme Portada of having advanced alone towards the decision to hire the artist Fat Boy Slim, the contract was not signed by the treasurer and administrator of AAUAlg “because they disagree with the amounts involved in the artist's visit”, in this case, 140 thousand euros.

Regarding the same Academic Week, "invoices were not issued by suppliers in an amount exceeding 30 thousand euros and the withholding tax of international artists in the amount of 18 thousand euros was not accounted for and paid", due to lack of funds, which resulted in encumber the accounts of subsequent years.

AAUAlg also draws attention to the fact that the 2011 general management has fully used the funds from a four-year contract with the brewer Tagus, «leaving the 2012 and 2013 DGs without funds to be received by the brewer and without being able to impute the respective part of the amount received for their Academic Weeks and Freshman Reception».

Note: The Sul Informação he has already spoken with Guilherme Portada, whose position and response we will disclose tomorrow morning, in a separate piece.
