Wicker baskets, scissors chairs, wooden spoons, patchwork bags, antique lace, leather belts and shoes are some of the representatives of genuine and local Monchique handicraft that will be on sale at Artechique – Monchique Crafts and Flavors Fair, which takes place in this village from the 6th to the 8th of September.

In the Largo dos Chorões, Monchique's living room, there will also be arbutus, honey, honeydew, sweets, sausages and ham, all with the good flavor of the mountains.

Between 10 am and 23 pm, on September 6th and 7th, and 10 am and 20 pm, on the 8th, XIX Artechique offers, in addition to the diversity of rare pieces crafted by the experienced hands of artisans from the mountains, a set of animation and recreation activities, also closely linked to the ancestral ways of life of this “last mountain range in the south”.

The musical entertainment will be in charge of local artists, in an intergenerational interaction that intends to make known the melodious sounds and voices of Monchique. Thus, there will be fado, traditional music, a moonlit dance and accordion players.

Highlights will be the always disputed “3 sevens” tournament, on the 7th, starting at 14 pm, and the already traditional Meeting of Accordionists, which is already in its 26th edition, on the 8th, at 16 pm.

Artechique is organized by the Parish Council of Monchique and has the support of the local municipality.
