A decision taken at the meeting that took place on Monday, the day Macário Correia was no longer president of the Chamber of Faro, on its own initiative and temporarily.

At the same meeting, the also Social Democrat and mayor of Loulé Seruca Emídio was sworn in as AMAL's new president.

In a press release released this Tuesday, the 16 mayors of the PSD and PS considered that Macário Correia, "over the past 12 years, has always shown loyalty, solidarity, character, respect and, above all, public service."

The former president of the body «showed an exceptional capacity for work and leadership», thanks to which «he became one of the faces of the Algarve, a national reference, an example for everyone and a politician from whom a lot can be learned».

AMAL stressed that "it has always defended the region and the Algarve, often challenging government powers."
