Starting next week, the Municipality of Portimão will make available several supports for the parking of bicycles, particularly on the beaches, in order to encourage the use of this ecological and healthy means of transport among tourists and residents, especially among young people.

This is a commitment to promoting the use of bicycles, especially at a time of year when car circulation in the city triples, thus encouraging the use of this urban transport option and facilitating parking on the county's main beaches and in some facilities municipal authorities.

Urban art creative Ricardo Jorge (Ekofive), author of the playmobil faces painted on various cement blocks in the city of Portimão, is responsible for the look of this project, suggestively titled “It's for the boy and for the girl”, which results from the recycling of old bicycles and parking supports.

In addition to the already existing supports in the Market at Av. São João de Deus, Largo da Câmara, Rua da Falésia, Fortaleza de Sta. Catarina, Complexo Desportivo de Alvor and Aqua and Continente shopping centres, these new parking blocks for bicycles will be implemented at Praia da Rocha (next to the Hotel da Rocha and the Belo Horizonte apartments and the Miradouro), at Praia do Vau, at Praia dos Três Irmãos, in the Torralta area, in Restinga (Alvor), at TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão, in Largo do Dique and in the Municipal Tennis Complex of Portimão.

This initiative is the result of a mini-project developed under the European initiative “Transport Learning".
