Encouraging the development of new products and services, specifically aimed at the segment of the elderly population living independently, based on the concept of eco-construction, is one of the objectives of the project «WIDER – Sustainable Development of SMEs: Innovation and Development in Med Region Energy Sector», of which the University of Algarve, through CRIA – Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer Division, is a partner.

The project will have a global allocation of 2,5 million euros, which will support cooperation and innovation in the energy sector in the Mediterranean region, in regions of Portugal, Italy, France, Spain, Greece, Slovenia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, among which the Algarve. Support is aimed at small and medium-sized companies that are part of the eco-construction value chain.

The sharing of knowledge and innovation is another point of honor for «WIDER», which was recently launched at a ceremony held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Thessaloniki, Greece, where the ten project partners were present.

“It should be noted that the European population is undergoing a marked aging process and the number of citizens over 65 years of age has been growing significantly. The aging of the population entails changes in the social structure and presents several challenges for which it is necessary to find a solution», illustrated the University of Algarve in a press release.

The “WIDER” project is financed by the Cross-Border Cooperation Program for the Mediterranean.
