“Corruption, harmful administration, money laundering and economic participation in business”. These are the suspicions that led to the arrest of Luís Carito, vice-president of the Portimão Chamber, councilor Jorge Campos, administrator of Portimão Urbis Lélio Branca, and two other people, as reported today by the Attorney General's Office (PGR). ).

In a statement, the PGR confirms that the facts under investigation are related to the activity and management of the municipal company Portimão Urbis.

The five detainees, as well as the Sul Informação reported last night, it will be this afternoon subject to first judicial interrogation by Judge Carlos Alexandre, of the Central Court of Criminal Instruction (TCIC), at the Justice Campus, in Lisbon.

Yesterday, following an operation coordinated by the PGR's DCIAP (Central Department of Investigation and Criminal Action), the Judiciary Police searched the offices of the vice president and councilor of the Portimão City Council, as well as their homes and offices of Portimão Urbis.

Following the operation, they turned out to be detained five people – Luís Carito, Jorge Campos, Lélio Branca, as well as Luis Varela Marreiros, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Picture Portugal, and Artur Curado, also a member of the board of the same company.

Yesterday, in the middle of the afternoon, the Chamber of Portimão had admitted, in a statement, that the PJ's searches are related to "a process that is under court terms and that originated in anonymous complaints, carried out in 2011, involving the business activity of Portimão Urbis EM".

The PJ's investigations into the activities of the municipal company Portimão Urbis, where Luís Carito and Jorge Campos are, respectively, president and vice-president of the General Assembly on behalf of the Chamber, date back to 2012, having already made a previous search of the municipality's facilities. . At the time of the facts (2011), Carito and Campos were members of the administration of that municipal company.
