The Municipality of Portimão and the CVA – Algarve Wine Commission have just signed a collaboration protocol under the motto “There are Algarve wines in Portimão”, which aims to promote the production of Algarve wine and the municipality's gastronomic heritage.

The document was signed by the mayor of Portimão Manuel da Luz, and by Carlos Gracias, chairman of the board of CVA, on the occasion of the gathering “There are Algarve wines”, the first of a series of activities already programmed under this protocol and that last Saturday brought together a few dozen people at Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes, who got to know a little more about the potential of regional wine production.

Under the protocol, the Municipality of Portimão, as an entity with competences in the licensing of economic activities, territorial development and support to local initiatives, will act as a facilitator in the involvement of various partners, such as restaurants and hotels, tourist entertainment agents, wineries and producers , Hotel Management School, Algarve Tourism, museums and others.

In this sense, the seal “There are Algarve wines in Portimão” was created to promote the production of Algarve wine, which is distinguished by its white, red and rosé harvests, and to increasingly assert Portimão as one of the wine-producing areas of the region. and a driving force behind this economic activity, through its four producers: Quinta do Morgado da Torre, Quinta da Penina, Herdade dos Pimentéis and Monte das Laranjeiras.

As for the CVA, it will provide all the necessary technical support and will coordinate, with the collaboration of the producers, the carrying out of actions that promote and promote the wines produced in the region.

 

This Saturday there is the workshop “Initiation to the test”

 

The set of initiatives under the motto “There are Algarve wines in Portimão” includes the installation at Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes of a space for the sale and promotion of Algarve wines, as well as other local gastronomic products, such as sweets and preserves.

Various actions and events aimed at different audiences are also scheduled, with the next initiative being the workshop “Initiation to the test”, scheduled for May 25 at Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes, from 18:00, and in which the trainer Mário Andrade, responsible for the The R&D department of Grupo João Portugal Ramos, will address the basics of wine tasting.

The specialist, who has been a consultant in several wineries in the Alentejo, Algarve, Dão, Lisbon, Tejo and Terras do Sado regions, will give a technical and theoretical explanation on sensory analysis, with special focus on the perception of sensation determined by sight, aroma and by taste, participants can test the knowledge acquired through tasting Algarve wines presented on site, and exchange views with the respective producers present.
