The executive of the Parish Council of Portimão expresses his "total disagreement" in relation to the announced relocation of the services of the CTT post in Praia da Rocha, which will be closed.

The Parish Council considers that this calls into question "the provision of a public service accessible to the many residents of Praia da Rocha, as well as to the thousands of tourists who seek this service, throughout the year, with emphasis on the summer period" .

Indeed, 'the decision to close the aforementioned CTT post and to relocate services to the shops operating in the city center, Teixeira Gomes and Gil Eanes, completely contradicts the information given, in due time, to the Parish Council of Portimão, at a meeting held on March 20th».

At that meeting, the municipality was informed "of the intention by the administration of CTT to keep the aforementioned post in service, albeit in a model of partnership with other entities, not jeopardizing the functioning of a public service, aimed not only at residents , but also to the thousands of tourists who settle in this area».

The executive of the Parish of Portimão considers that there is "a decision to close one more, among the 200 Post Offices that have closed throughout the country, without people having a voice in this matter, contrary to the words of those responsible of the Board of Directors of CTT who state, in their editorial Aposta, of September 2012 that “…the most important (…) are the people…”».

This closure configures, in the opinion of that municipality, "a policy of attacking public services". Therefore, it counts on the opposition of people from Portimo, who understand this measure as a violence to their quality of life, as users of this service, with emphasis on the elderly residents of Praia da Rocha, who will have to travel several kilometers to deal with matters such as paying expenses and receiving pensions”.

“We are talking about an area where around fifteen hundred people live, according to data from the latest censuses, and many of them are elderly,” stresses the Board.

On the other hand, «we cannot neglect the existing services, in the area of hotels and restaurants, residents of second homes, and tourists who choose Praia da Rocha for their holidays».

The executive of the Parish Council of Portimão also informs that he will “denounce this decision to ANACON and ask for explanations from the CTT Board of Directors”.

CTT, preparing its announced privatization, is carrying out a policy of closing some posts, especially in inland areas or allegedly with less traffic. In addition to Praia da Rocha, it is already known the intention to close the stations and stations of Ferragudo (Lagoon), Santa Barbara de Nexe (Faro), Alte (Loulé).
