The Ultraviolet Index will present high values on the next 24th and 25th of April, announced today the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere.

As can be seen in the attached image, the entire national territory will be subject to high and very high values of UV radiation, especially in the center of the North of the country.

For the Autonomous Region of Madeira it is also expected an increase in the maximum daily UVI values, which may reach the Very High level (10) today, 23 April and in the following days.

For the Autonomous Region of the Azores, daily maximum values of the UVI are expected for the 23rd (today) and 25th of April (Thursday) that may reach the Moderate level (³5 and <2,5) in the central and western groups and the High level (>=5,5 and <5,5) in the Eastern group.

For April 24, maximum daily UVI values are expected to be Low (<2,5) in the western group, Moderate (>=2,5 and <5,5) in the central group and High (>=5,5, 7,5 and <XNUMX) in the eastern group.

IPMA explains that very high UVI values sometimes occur in April, on the mainland and in Madeira.

The solar rise, which increases with the approach of the summer solstice (June 21) and the predicted reduction in total ozone for the next few days (eg, in Lisbon below 325 Dobson Units), contributes to the occurrence of these high values. as well as the expected low cloud conditions for today and for the next few days in mainland Portugal and Madeira.

In these situations, the IPMA recommends the use of sunglasses with UV filter, hat, t-shirt, parasol, sunscreen and avoid exposing children to the sun.
