The Florida Torches filled the streets of São Brás de Alportel with color on Easter Sunday, in yet another Procession of Aleluia, one of the main annual events in this municipality of Serra do Caldeirão.

Despite the gray day and rainy weather, thousands of people took to the streets to participate or just watch the procession.

A also known as Florida Torch Party it assumes itself more and more as the highlight of the touristic attraction of São Brás.

Much of the fame and attractiveness has to do with the carpets of flowers that are spread on the streets where the Procession passes and the flower arrangements, called torches, which the hundreds of participants carry in their hands

"The procession brought together people from São Bras of all ages from the municipality, but also from other countries, who methodically return at this time of year to fulfill the tradition of the Florida Torch Festival as a family," the Chamber revealed in a press release. of São Brás de Alportel.

The party continued in the afternoon, at the Museu do Trajo, on a different Cultural Afternoon, between 14 pm and 00 pm, with the presence of the TVI Somos Portugal Program. In addition to the usual entertainment, the venue also featured a display of local sweets and handicraft products, among many other suggestions.

A celebration that also served to announce the winners of the Florida Torch Contest.

«In this year's edition, the competition was fierce with the participation of many torches in the competition, in the 3 existing categories: children, up to 13 years old; young, up to 26 years of age and adult, from 26 years of age. In the children's category, Milene Gonçalves was awarded, followed by the revelation of the 2nd category, collected by the young Ludgero Barriga, and finally, Bernardino Pires, from São Paulo, won first place in the 3rd category», revealed the municipality.

The 2013 Floral Games competition, on the other hand, was won by Álvaro Cavaco, in Quadras, António Barroso, in Subordinada a Mote Poesia and in Free Poesia was António Cavaco.

The Florida Torch Festival is an initiative organized in partnership by the Cultural Association of São Brás, the Parish of São Brás and the City Council of São Brás de Alportel, bringing together the support of the Parish Council of São Brás de Alportel, local companies and dozens of volunteers.
