The PS Algarve says it is concerned with "the neglect of regional entities in the area of health" and with the fact that they do not authorize "the beginning of operation of units that were even financed by the Ministry of Health itself".

The Federation of PS do Algarve urged "regional entities to rethink the options taken and recommends the contracting of all continuing care units, during 2013, as they meet the technical conditions for this purpose", in a press release.

The Socialists recalled that, through the Modeling Program, the Government “financed non-profit private entities in more than 130 beds that are still to be opened and, on the other hand, supported the creation of 45 beds within the Hospital de Faro which likewise did not start functioning'.

"Such a decision implies, of course, great constraints for the promoters involved, not least because they contracted loans to carry out the projects in question, and may even interfere with their sustainability and financial health", defended the PS/Algarve.

For the socialists, the posture of regional public entities is “frankly harmful to the needs of the Algarve population for articulated health care and social support and, likewise, harmful to the expectations of the entities promoting new internment units”.

«In an aging society like ours, and particularly in the case of the Algarve, the low investment in long-term care means depriving the Algarve of opportunities to recover and maintain their personal and social comfort. Also because the PS Algarve did not forget the closing of the 20 beds in the Convalescent Unit of Faro», they considered.

The PS defends the rationalization of resources by public entities, guaranteed the party, but that the savings must occur "through the restructuring, reorganization of services and not through the elimination of necessary services".
