The European Route of Discoveries integrates the culture, history and heritage of navigation, the discoverers and the maritime tradition of Andalusia and the Algarve. Identifying, enhancing and promoting the territories of the Discoveries are the objectives of this initiative.

This initiative, which is the result of a partnership between Algarve Tourism and Seville Tourism, is coordinated by Fundación Nao Victoria and includes a virtual museum of the Discoveries, tourist promotion actions aboard replicas of historic vessels, on the Victoria ship and on the caravel Boa Esperança, journeys on the Discoveries, educational workshops, a monthly newsletter and a website.

The Journeys “The role of the Portuguese and Andalusians in the Discovery of the Transoceanic Routes and the conquest of Hispanoamerica and its enhancement through the European Route of Discoveries” will take place in Vila do Bispo, Lagos, Palos de la Frontera, Sevilla and Sanlúcar de Barrameda , on a date to be announced.

Between the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries, the cradle of the Discoveries was developed in the territory of the Iberian Peninsula between Cabo de São Vicente (Vila do Bispo, Algarve) and Sanlúcar de Barrameda (Cádiz, Andalusia).

Cultural and historical bonds were formed that last for more than five centuries and today constitute a unique heritage.

The DESCUBRITER European Discoveries Route is developed under the ERDF, is budgeted at 560 thousand euros and is co-financed at 75 percent through the Operational Program for Cross-border Cooperation Spain-Portugal 2007-2013 (POCTEP).
