In February, it will be possible to celebrate Carnival and see how different living beings date their loved ones, at the Centro de Ciência Viva do Algarve.

The scientific dissemination space of Faro will promote a series of initiatives throughout the month, with special programs on Valentine's Day and for revelers.

Before highlighting the "lovebirds" and opening the doors to the creativity characteristic of Carnival, an element that is often present both at romantic dinners (for humans, of course) and at Shrovetide festivities will be highlighted: wine .

On February 9th, between 20 pm and 22 pm, winemaker Rúben Pinto from Adega do Cantor will promote the workshop “Da Uva à Garrafa”, which intends to make known more about the vine, the constitution of the bunch, the evolution of maturation, vintage marking, vinification and bottling conditions. «Learn how to appreciate wines: whites, rosés and reds», challenged the CCV do Algarve.

On the 10th, the Sunday before Carnival, a costume contest will take place throughout the day on the theme “Become a Scientist”. In addition to a photographic record of the participants, there will be surprise prizes.

On St. Valentine's Day, February 14, the CCV of Faro promotes the “Dating” initiative, where it aims to make known how they “fall in love” and reproduce the species in our aquariums and greenhouse. "You will also receive a beautiful origami heart to give to your (your) boyfriend!", announced the center.

Also for the general public, there will be monthly astronomy sessions, with observation of the stars and the Sun, which in February will take place on the night of February 22nd and in the afternoon of the 23rd.

Kids will be secret agents for a day

For the youngest, the CCV do Algarve promotes Science Afternoons every Saturday, dedicated to children from 5 to 11 years old. Today, February 2, the initiative “Tardes Pegajosas” will be promoted, which propose activities with materials such as monster catches, glue made with milk and other activities where chemistry will be present.

Next Saturday, the 9th, the afternoon will be dedicated to «Carnival Masks», with the center helping the little ones to make and decorate their costumes using recycled materials such as paper, cups, glitter balloons, paints and a lot of imagination.

On the 16th, the CCV do Algarve challenges the children to become «Secret Agents». In this initiative, children will learn how to find fingerprints, how to decode secret messages made of numbers, letters and sounds and how to extract DNA from saliva.

On the last Science Afternoon of the month, on February 23rd, the theme is «Traditional Games» and it will be revealed how our grandparents played and how they made their own games. “Is there any science behind these games? This is what we are going to discover by putting our senses and imagination to work», announced the CCV.
