There will be no redundancies arising from the municipalization processes of Teatro das Figuras and the merger of municipal companies Mercado Municipal de Faro and Ambifaro.

In the case of the integration of the staff of the Municipal Theater of Faro in the structure of the autarchy, there may be cases where remuneration has to be lowered, but the door is open to all employees, even those with a fixed-term contract.

The guarantee was given to the Sul Informação and to Rádio Universitária do Algarve RUA FM by the mayor of Faro Macário Correia, during the radio program “Impressions”, which will go to today, Wednesday, at 19 pm. The entire interview can be heard on 102.7 FM or on the RUA website.

In this conversation, Macário Correia spoke openly about the process that could result in him losing his mandate, explaining the reasons that lead him to fight “until the end”. As for a possible re-application, he did not want to take any position until "the situation is clarified".

In an interview where there was no lack of news, Macário Correia explained the contours of the merger process of two municipal companies and the municipalization of the theater. In the latter case, this was not the solution sought by the mayor, but the one required by a law last August.

“Our initial intention was one, now, by imposition of the law, it has to be another. We have tried throughout this time to prepare things to merge some companies, with the economies of scale that this entails. It wasn't necessary to fire anyone and that's not going to happen», revealed Macário Correia.

The Chamber of Faro started thinking about the merger a few years ago and was in its final phase, when the government launched the law that obliges municipalities to join the companies they own. «In other words, the merger that we had been thinking of as a voluntary act, of good management, we were forced to do by imposition. And this results in something different», he explained.

The rules stipulated in the law for the merger of municipal companies make the intention of the municipality of Faro unfeasible, since there are parameters in relation to "the management and in particular the current revenue, of the coverage that has been carried out in the last three years in relation to to the operating deficit'. «Joining the three, there was none left, because they did not comply with these rules as a whole. Joining Ambifaro and the Market, these two survive under the law. The theater is not», he said.

The case of Faro it is not unique, since the Teatro Municipal Farense, «as in many other places, does not manage to have recipes that cover 50 percent of its general costs». In the same situation are the theaters of Braga, Guarda, Vila Real and Aveiro.

“We spoke with the Secretary of State for Culture and we have been looking for steps with the Ministry of Finance, which are obviously not easy. I want here, with some displeasure, that the Government made a specific law in August for the National Theaters, to get away with it. For regional theaters, the law is different. In other words, it creates a very complicated problem for us», he considered.

This is just one of the many themes that are on the table in the interview that will air today on RUA FM. O Sul Informação will cover, in the coming days, the most relevant issues, ranging from new developments in the public transport system in Faro to developments in works long awaited by farenses.
