The EB 2,3 Dr. Garcia Domingues and EB 2,3 do Algoz schools will host, on January 10th, a clarification session on the Promotion of the Habitat of the Iberian Lynx and the Black Vulture in the Southeast of Portugal.

The action is part of the LIFE – Nature project, coordinated in Portugal by the LPN – League for the Protection of Nature, and has the support of the Municipality of Silves and the collaboration of the In-Loco Association.

On this day, more than a hundred students will, through the presentation of the project and the realization of a game of questions and answers, understand the importance of the conservation of the habitat of the Iberian Lynx and the Black Vulture and, simultaneously, that the Extensive activities that are at the origin of the Mediterranean landscape are compatible with the conservation of these species.

In the morning, the action takes place at Escola EB 2,3 Dr. Garcia Domingues, in Silves, at 10:15 am, and in the afternoon it takes place at EB 2,3 in Algoz, at 14:20 pm.

In Portugal, this project lasts for four years, running from January 2010 to December 2013 and will be implemented in the regions of Mourão, Moura and Barrancos, Vale do Guadiana and Serra do Caldeirão, in the areas of the Natura Network there. existing.

Co-financed 75% by the LIFE Program of the European Commission and a global budget of around 2,6 million euros, this project aims to contribute to improving the survival, feeding and reproduction conditions of the Iberian lynx (lynx pardinus) and the black vulture (Aegypius monachus) in the Southeast of Portugal, benefiting a wide range of other threatened species.

Within its scope, the establishment of collaboration protocols with local agents is foreseen, namely owners, managers, farmers and hunters, in order to promote the conservation of the natural landscape that serves as a habitat for the Iberian lynx and the black vulture; as well as raising awareness and involving society in the conservation of Nature and Biodiversity in the region.
