The Municipal Theater of Faro will not enter into the merger of municipal companies that is being operated by Faro and should, rather, be extinguished and be absorbed by the structure of the chamber of Faro.

The subject was still on the Agenda of the Chamber Meeting yesterday, Wednesday, to which the Sul Informação watched, but its discussion and vote was eventually postponed, since, as the mayor of the municipality Macário Correia confessed at the time, the process is complicated and needs more work before it can move forward.

Basically, it is about municipalizing the company that manages Teatro das Figuras. And that is where the complication will lie, as there is still some doubt about the way in which municipalizations are processed, a process that is closely linked to the new law that will lead to the extinction of many municipal companies across the country.

Macário Correia added that city technicians "have been in contact with other municipalities, which are also having difficulties" in similar processes.

The transfer of TMF to the municipality instead of the new municipal company that will be created with the merger of Mercado Municipal de Faro and Ambifaro (the process that was also the Chamber meeting and has now been launched) will be due to the law's requirement that municipal companies have at least 50 percent of their own revenue budget.

A situation that is far from happening at TMF and that could also jeopardize the viability of a future municipal company that would join the three structures.

The vote on the procedure that will start the process of municipalization of the TMF was postponed until the next Meeting of the Chamber of Faro, which should take place from the first to the 6th of February. This is not a unique reality in the country, especially when it comes to municipal companies that managed equipment in the cultural area.

With regard to the merger between Ambifaro and the Municipal Market, the opposition councilors asked for the vote to be also postponed, so that they could better study the matter, a request that Macário correctly said was not possible, given the deadlines that have to be met in order to comply with the law.

The merger will have to be approved "by the end of February", he revealed, and there are "three steps that have to be taken" before submission to the Municipal Assembly, at the end of February.

Even so, the PS was given the possibility to analyze the documents before announcing its direction of vote. Anyway, the proposal will always be approved by the councilors of the coalition in power, in a majority in this municipal body.
