The Secretary of State for Public Works inaugurates on Friday, December 14, at 11:30 am, the repaving work on the ER 267, between Aljezur and the limit of the municipality of Monchique.

The Serrano Transversal Axis (ER 124/267) plays an important role in the interior of the Algarve, linking together the main towns and parishes in the mountains.

The work now officially inaugurated translates “the achievement of a municipal objective with regard to territorial mobility, identified long ago and which is now a reality”, stresses the City Council of Aljezur.

In this context, this municipality submitted an application to PO Algarve 21 in the amount of almost 1,5 million euros.

The purpose of this application was to requalify the ER 267 that connects to Marmelete, in the neighboring municipality of Monchique, in the section between Aljezur and the municipality's limit, over a length of 6,65 kilometers.

This section had a «very degraded state of conservation and urgent intervention, noting the almost total absence of horizontal and vertical signage», adds the municipality.

The section in question is therefore part of the so-called Serrano transversal axis, which is considered as one of the main axes of interregional articulation, linking the main urban agglomerations in the interior, and its requalification is defined as a priority in the document Algarve-Development Strategies ( 2007/2013).

The improved section had several pathologies along its entire route, so that, in addition to the repaving of the entire road, the works included the regularization of all anomalies found in the terrain.

The basic solution aimed to ensure a cross-sectional type of 7 meters in width of the carriageway, to which the value of overwidth was added whenever the radius of the circular curves presented values less than 200 meters. Berms with 1 meter wide each were considered, totaling the platform in 9 meters.

This project was prepared taking into account the general and detailed criteria in the “Ex-JAE Signaling and Safety Standards”.

The project was approved by the PO Algarve's Management Authority with an eligible investment in the amount of 1.475.987,80 euros, with a ERDF financial contribution of 50%. Subsequently, due to technical reprogramming, the co-financing rate was set at 65%.

The City Council of Aljezur insists that the work is "paid in full".

«An old aspiration of all Aljezurenses finally takes shape! Thus, security conditions are improved, as well as the quality of life and use of users, representing an enormous added value in the conditions of interregional connection», concludes the municipality.
