Between December 15, 2012 and January 31, 2013, applications are open for the attribution of scholarships for the academic year 2012/2013, aimed at needy students from the municipality of Olhão, enrolled in higher education establishments.
«Considering that the local authority has a fundamental role in increasing the cultural and educational level of the population, young people from the most deprived families are often forced to interrupt their studies because the distance that separates them from higher education establishments implies supporting costs with transport and unaffordable accommodation for the respective households and that it is urgent to support those young people and contribute to equal opportunities in accessing the highest levels of education, the Municipality of Olhão intends to encourage these young people from Olhão to attend higher education courses." explains the Chamber in a press release.
The scholarship consists in the attribution of a monetary benefit, of fixed value, to share the expenses resulting from the attendance of education.
Scholarships are awarded annually, for a period of 10 months, as long as the conditions for award do not change.
This year, the Municipality of Olhão decided to award, at the meeting held on December 5th, 10 scholarships to displaced students in the amount of 180 euros per month and 10 scholarships to non-displaced students, in the amount of 90 euros per month.
