JP Simões is the name that follows in the concerts of the Cantautores cycle of the Casa do Povo of Santo Estêvão, in the interior of the municipality of Tavira. The concert of the multifaceted musician is scheduled for this Friday, December 7th, at 22 pm.

JP Simões was born in Coimbra in 1970. He studied Journalism, Communication Law, Script Writing, Theater History, Saxophone, Arabic Language, (etc…) and has a master's degree in Literary Theory from the University of Lisbon, but has been essentially practicing music for the last 17 years with Pop dell'Arte, Belle Chase Hotel, Quintet Tati and solo.

He wrote short stories, plays, song lyrics, screenplays for cinema and actively participated as a musician and actor in films by Fernando Vendrell, Edgar Pêra, António Ferreira and others, signing along the way some soundtracks for documentaries.

In theatre, he wrote the libretto for “Ópera do Flawado” (Editora 101 Nights, 2004) sharing his musical invention with composer Sérgio Costa.

On television, he conceived, edited and presented the series of programs to promote the new Portuguese music, “Quilómetro Zero”, broadcast in 2008 by RTP2, big winner of the Grande Angular Documentary Festival, in 2009.

In 2007 he released “1970” (Valentim de Carvalho) his first solo album, and “O Vírus da Vida” (Sextante Editora, 2007), a book of short stories with illustrations by André Carrilho.

In April 2009, he released “Boato”, a new album of originals. In March 2011 he released a new album, made in partnership with the composer Afonso Pais: “Onde Mora o Mundo”.

On June 27, 2012 “A Íntima Farsa” is premiered, a musical tragicomedy made to order for the Municipal Theater of São Luiz.

Recently, JP Simões was invited to enter the universe of “The Skin that's in Me”. This theme is part of the new edition of the album “DÁ” by Márcia, which was released in December 2011.

The cycle «Cantautores» will continue in the coming months, with concerts by Sebastião Antunes (12 January0) and Pucarinho (23 February) already being scheduled.

Admission to these concerts costs 5 euros, including a drink (beer, juice or water).
