The path to recover the accounts of the Academic Association of the University of Algarve (AAUAlg) has already been traced and Filipa Braz da Silva is well aware of the accounts and the difficulties that await her.

The future president of AAUAlg pledges to continue the program launched by the current direction, to which she belongs, in which "maximum cost containment and sacrifice was made by the members of the management and the association's human resources".

A situation that, he admitted, made her consider her candidacy for president of the General Directorate of AAUAlg very well, ending up imposing a condition on herself. “I only accepted to advance to a candidacy if I had an experienced treasurer, precisely because I know the situation in which AAUAlg finds itself”, he said.

«I'm from Pharmaceutical Sciences, my experience in associativism is already some, but then even being able to be alone in a very complicated financial situation that requires a lot of gymnastics, I wouldn't do it», she summed up.

Filipa Braz da Silva was on the radio program Impressões, jointly promoted by Sul Informação and by Rádio Universitária do Algarve RUA FM, and did not hesitate to comment on some of the issues raised by UAlg students during the university campaign.

Many of the criticisms focused on the choice that Filipa da Silva made to occupy the position of treasurer, the already veteran student at UAlg Nelson Sobreiro, essentially because his age was already close to 40 years old.

“Basically, we are arrested for having a dog and arrested for not having one. If we're 20 years old, we're kids who go there and screw it up, if we're 40 it's because we're freeloaders and we go there to get it. Maybe being 30 is the ideal, but even so, there would be criticism», he said, laughing.

«Nelson Sobreiro was the assistant treasurer in the current term, he was always closely connected to AAUAlg, he was president of the Magna Assembly, was on the Supervisory Board and had also been treasurer in a General Directorate before. Therefore…», he justified.

"There was no one else in the current general management who could continue and had the staff, the knowledge and also the affection for AAUAlg necessary to take on this task", he defended.

“I had to insist a lot with him. I know he didn't want to because he has his job and his life. And I know that, if anything made him accept, in addition to our friendship, it was the awareness that there is a need to leave someone prepared to assume the position next year," he added.

Parties will follow the same model as 2012

In addition to promoting spending cuts, the current general management “found models for the Academic Week and for the Freshman Reception”, the latter already consolidated.

“Many of these things have now been confirmed with the advice of the Financial Audit report”, ordered by the current management, said Filipa da Silva.

“There are also other recommended measures in the report that I want to apply. Fortunately or unfortunately, they will have to be applied, with all that a reform of this kind entails», he said.

One of the consequences for the future will be the impossibility of moving forward with some projects, namely those that involve investment by AAUAlg. During the term that is now ending, Pedro Barros and his management had already carried out a restructuring of the staff and services, which will continue.

Basically, the projects that will be able to advance are those that, even though they are not profitable, do not represent a loss for the association either. One of the examples is the continuity of the Noite Azul, which will be associated with a greater investment in academic festivals and in Prata da Casa.

«We want to have one camp a month. Also because, grain by grain, it fills the chicken with the crop (laughs) and always gives a profit margin, even if small. And students like it», he explained.

«Something we want to do is involve more Autonomous Sections, in addition to the Tunas, in the camps. Like Sin-cera, African Dances, try to insert other types of activities. Basically, trying to show what is ours», he said.
