Instead of ribbons and polka dots, in São Brás de Alportel there is a different Christmas tree, which is made of scraps of time and speaks of people's lives.

The Christmas Tree of Tempo, open to the public since yesterday, the 12th, in the atrium of the Cineteatro São Brás, reveals another surprising artistic creation, by designer Sónia Martins, with the collaboration of students from the Senior University of São Brás de Alportel .

This artistic piece shows, for the third consecutive year, the ability to reinvent Christmas. In the first year, 2010, the Christmas tree celebrated interculturality, with a tree where the four nationalities present in the São Brasense community fit; in 2011, nature covered the natural Christmas tree with beauty and magic, in a tribute to Mother Nature, at the culmination of the International Year of the Forest.

In this year's 2012 edition, Tempo's Christmas Tree wants to celebrate the “tic tac of life” and unite generations, at the end of the European Year of Active Aging and Solidarity between Generations, in a tribute to the intergenerational life lived in São Brás de Alportel.

For this reason, alongside the hard work of the students of the Senior University, the beautiful paintings of the project “returning life to the mountains” can be appreciated, produced by the small hands of the boys and girls of the Mealhas kindergarten, special guests. light up this very special Christmas tree.

This unique piece, made of clocks, small colorful patches, fragments of memories, past and present times, shows the essence of someone who has the experience of years and lives intensely in the present to project the future.

The Christmas Tree of Time portrays on its bare trunks the traces of the fire that devastated more than 50% of São Brasense territory, re-emerging through the color and ticking of the clocks the hope of the future.

After the symbolic inauguration of the Christmas Tree of Time by the hand of a child, there was also the inauguration of an exhibition on Serra Ardida, portrayed through the eyes of the children of the Mealhas Kindergarten.

This meeting of generations through art can be enjoyed until January 6th.
