The French Film Festival is back to Faro and it will bring 13 films to the Algarve capital, ten of which have been premiered at the national level beforehand and most of them still have no guarantee of commercial distribution in our country.

Between October 16 and 21, the public in the region and in Baixo Alentejo will be able to watch films for all tastes and of the most varied styles, from drama to comedy, passing through animation and documentary films, at Teatro das Figuras, in Faro.

The event was presented this Tuesday at the Sociedade Recreativa Artística Farense (SRAF), an entity that joins the party this year.

An opportunity to talk about the festival, but, above all, to lift the veil on the programming, which can be consulted in detail on the initiative's website. On Tuesday, the 16th, the event opens at 21 pm, with the comedy “L'Art d'Aimer”, by Emmanuel Mouret, which has been present in several film festivals and sets the tone for six days of quality cinema .

This is, moreover, an event that many are looking forward to with enthusiasm, according to the president of the Alliance Française do Algarve Jacques Mer. “Since January, people have come to us to find out which films we are going to present, despite the party being always in October,” he revealed. An indication of the dimension that the festival has been gaining in the region and which makes the extension of Faro one of the most popular attractions, of the various poles that the party has in the country.

The French Film Festival is organized, at national level, by the Institut Français du Portugal and has, in 2012, initiatives in Lisbon, Almada, Faro, Porto, Coimbra and Guimarães. This year, the godmother of the event is the Portuguese actress Maria de Medeiros, who stars in one of the films that will come to Faro.

In the Algarve region, not all the films that are part of the party's list will be shown, in a total of 20, all of them very recent and distinguished by having won awards or received critical acclaim. The 13 selected by the organization of the festival at a regional level, Alliance Française, intend to «show the great variety of styles» that French cinema plays, bringing «quality films».

Elements that, for the director of the Municipal Theater of Faro (TMF) Anabela Afonso allowed this party to have had a «notorious public evolution» since 2004, the first year it was extended to the region. “It exemplifies well the result that persistence combined with quality gives in terms of audience. At the beginning there were few people, but today the rooms are always very well composed», he considered.

The party will feature two daily sessions at 19:30 pm and 21:30 pm, as well as special afternoon sessions, geared towards a younger audience, with animated films, on October 17th and October 20th, at 15 pm. To watch this last session, "a bus with children from Mértola" will come on purpose to watch the film, something that had already happened in 2011.

And as the objective is to show the best that is made in the French film industry, prices are affordable, especially for those who want to watch more than one movie or go with a group.

A single ticket costs 3,5 euros, but this year there will be packages of five and ten tickets, for 15 and 25 euros, respectively, in addition to discounts for children under 25 and over 65, who only pay 3 euros per session.

In the case of packages, unlike what happened in the past with the French Film Festival pass, tickets can be used in any session by anyone, namely "by groups".

In 2012, the Festa will “go out at night” and take a leap to the SRAF's “Os Artistas” bar, with the French Music Festival. The music will be in charge of Pedro Mesquita, who will make use of his vast collection of vinyl records and make known music sung in French, "not only from France". «I will use different styles, from the 50's until now. The guideline will be the French language», he revealed.
