The plays occupy the foyer of Teatro das Figuras, in Faro, as if they were bodies waiting to enter any event, with their curvilinear elements highlighted. They don't have a name, as so often happens to individuals in a crowd, but this helps those who observe them to be able to explore the work of art freely, without restrictions. Until 14 December, Teatro das Figuras hosts an exhibition by the Portuguese sculptor Rui Matos.

Like the pieces on display, the exhibition was also not defined by a name. A mark of the sculptor, who prefers to leave open the interpretation of his art. «I don't like to condition, I don't like to give metaphors, because it leads in a direction», revealed Rui Matos to Sul Informação, on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the exhibition, which took place this Saturday.

«If I give a title, it will always be a very broad poetic title. But I prefer not to. I don't like conditioning. And there are people who identify diametrically opposite things in my sculptures, which is good for me», he said, laughing.

“All works have a logical and intuitive process. Basically, I let the work grow like a body. There is an initial idea, a structure and it grows, it develops as a living being. And I pick up a series of things as references: there are fragments of bodies, of plants, there are almost industrial things and mechanical aspects. Everything enters and ends in a new being, which is sculpture», he explained.

Rui Matos is from Lisbon and lives and works near Sintra. In addition to many exhibitions, it left its mark on various public spaces in various municipalities across the country.
